Melissa is an Educational Therapist and Dyslexia Specialist who has been in private practice for over fifteen years. Melissa is certified in Special Education, Wilson Language, and Family Math. She has extensive training in Orton-Gillingham, Lindamood-Bell, Herman Method, Alphabetic Phonics, and Project Read, as well as in multi-sensory math programs such as Touch Math and Math-U-See. Melissa is also trained in the use of highly structured programs to teach expository writing. Additionally, a large part of her practice is teaching study skills, organization, and time-management strategies and techniques (executive function skills) to her students.
Melissa's specialty is finding what works for each individual and tailoring the instruction to fit the needs of the student. Melissa is a highly prescriptive teacher offering one-on-one instruction to alternative learners of all ages in reading, spelling, writing, math, and organization and study skills. Skills are directly taught in a systematic, sequential, and incremental way using multi-sensory, researched, and proven techniques.
